Ghana: Commercial drivers begin strike over high fuel prices

– Advertisement – There are chaotic scenes in parts of Ghana as commercial drivers begin an indefinite strike. The Coalition of Commercial Transport Owners declared the nationwide strike as part of measures to compel the government to scrap some taxes on fuel to enable reduction at the pumps. Malawi’s Joyce Banda government hikes fuel prices

BLANTYRE(AGV)–Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has adjusted upwards fuel prices effective February 6, 2014.


The upward adjustment was announced on Wednesday by MERA.

Petrol will now be selling at 839 kwacha from 760 kwacha, Diesel will be selling at K853.40 up from K770 per litre, this represents 10.39 percent and 10.80 percent respectively.

A statement signed by MERA board chairperson Lyton Zinyemba says the hike is as a result of depreciation of the kwacha to the dollar.
