Burkina Faso: Death toll from jihadist attack rises to 80

– – Authorities in Burkina Faso have said that the number of people who died in Wednesday’s jihadist attack has risen to 80. The deaths occurred when a military convoy escorting civilians in northern Burkina Faso was attacked by militants. Almost 60 of the victims were civilians, according to authorities with others being soldiers and members of a pro-government militia. Niger: Death toll from jihadist attacks rises to 100

– – Some 100 people have now been confirmed dead from the suspected jihadist attacks on two villages in Niger. According to the Prime Minister Brigi Rafini, 70 people were killed in the village of Tchombangou and 30 others in Zaroumdareye – both near Niger’s border with Mali. Analysts say this was one of the deadliest attacks recorded in the country which is grappling with ethnic violence and Islamic militancy. So far no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks. Mali: French aid worker, veteran politician freed by Jihadists

– – Jihadists in Mali have freed a French aid worker, Sophie Pétronin who has been held hostage since 2016. Sophie Pétronin’s family have confirmed her release, and said the 75 year old aid worker – was on her way to the capital, Bamako. Malian officials free hundreds of jailed jihadists

– – Officials in Mali have freed more than 100 jihadists jailed for carrying out violent acts. The prisoners were released in the central region of Niono and in Tessalit in the north. Burkina Faso: Gunmen open fire inside church, kill at least 14

Gunmen in Burkina Faso on Sunday opened fire on worshipers at a church killing at least 14 people. Local media reported that the victims were attending a service at a church in Hantoukoura, in the eastern part of the country. Mali: U.N. peacekeeper killed, five wounded in two attacks

The U.N. mission (MINUSMA) has said that a U.N. peacekeeper was killed on Sunday at a mine site in Mali. Four others were also wounded when their vehicle hit an explosive device in northern Mali.
