Malawi coup plotter suspect Goodall Gondwe resigns as economic planning minister
President Banda hired Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) first vice president Gondwe following the resignation of Atupele Muluzi, who was part of the government of national unity.
The police arrested Gondwe and 10 other DPP officials including its acting President Peter Mutharika on allegation they attempted to circumvent the constitutional order last April soon after the death of former president Bingu wa Mutharika.
He is answering treason and inciting mutiny charges jointly together with Mutharika and former chief secretary to government Bright Msaka.
They were given bail Thursday afternoon after spending three nights in police cells at Lumbadzi Police in the capital city.
