Ghana to send peacekeepers to South Sudan

She said Ghana was the only country in Africa with the closest margin of electoral victory between the winner and the looser of presidential elections.

Miss Tetteh said the 2012 general elections in Ghana was the most credible and most transparent election ever held in the country and was given a clean bill of health by both international and local observers.

She said yet the nation had to go through the most difficult period of eight months of Supreme Court hearing of the Presidential Election petition and President Mahama again emerged victorious.

The Foreign Minister said before the ruling of the Supreme Court,the United States, France and Turkey demonstrated their confidence in President Mahama’s election victory by extending invitations to him for state visits.

Ms Tetteh said the government was committed to upholding the integrity of state institutions such as the Electoral Commission as part of deepening the democratic process.

She said fire outbreaks at the Judgment Debt Commission and the Economic and Organized Crime Office would not halt the government’s efforts at combating corruption.

The Foreign Minister said US government’s Partnership for Growth Initiative covering four countries in which Ghana and Tanzania are the only African countries benefitting from it was a clear demonstration of confidence in Ghana’s economy.

Mr Paul Victor Obeng, Senior Advisor to the President who chaired the function, said the nation went through challenging times in 2013, adding that the foundation for economic growth had been laid and this year would experience sound economic growth.
