Globetrotting Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera reaffirms strong ties with China at welcoming dinner

Beijing, China – September 1, 2024 – During a recent welcoming dinner hosted by Vice President of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Mr. Han Zheng, Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera reaffirmed the enduring friendship and collaborative spirit between Malawi and China.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2008, Malawi and China have forged a robust partnership marked by significant progress and mutual support. President Chakwera highlighted the transformative impact of Chinese assistance, noting the successful implementation of major infrastructure projects across transportation, education, healthcare, and energy sectors in Malawi. These projects, supported by grants and concessional loans from China, have played a crucial role in improving livelihoods and advancing development in Malawi.
President Chakwera expressed his gratitude for China’s timely humanitarian aid, particularly in the aftermath of climate-related disasters that have affected Malawians. He commended the Vice President for China’s support, which has been instrumental in providing relief and assistance to communities in need.
Looking ahead, President Chakwera underscored Malawi’s commitment to further strengthening this invaluable partnership. He emphasized the importance of continuing to nurture the bond between the two nations, with a focus on achieving even more meaningful outcomes through their collaborative efforts.
