Over 20 migrants die after they were thrown into sea off Djibouti

– – The United Nation has said more than 20 African migrants died after their smugglers threw them overboard off the coast of Djibouti. According to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), at least 80 people were thrown off to reduce the load on the vessel. The boat was reportedly carrying about 200 migrants, including women and children at the time of the incident. Benin probes abduction of 9 persons by pirates

Benin officials have launched a probe into the abduction of nine people from a Norwegian-flagged boat off its coast. The port of Cotonou has confirmed the said abduction carried out by some pirates. The pirates reportedly boarded the vessel, owned by Norwegian shipping firm J.J. Ugland, while it was at anchor over the weekend off the coast. The Norwegian Shipowners’ Association said all those on board were Filipinos.
