Bated breath as Malawians wait court ruling, results announcement

Peter Mutharika of DPP Leading the Vote CountBLANTYRE, May 30 (AGV) –Malawians are under bated breath as they await the high court  ruling  on Friday after the end of hearing of submissions in a case which will determine whether the Malawi Electoral Commission has powers to extend the period in which it can announce the results or recount the votes following an electoral dispute that has damaged the reputation of the body. 

 Judge Kenyatta Nyirenda, who heard the submissions in three hours, simply said when the ruling is ready, counsel will be informed.

Mec acted impartially throughout Malawi’s election period- EU Chief Election Observer

Observer Veronique De KeyserBLANTYRE (AGV)–While President Joyce Banda is pressing for manual vote recount, the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU COM) says the Malawi Electoral Commission has acted impartially throughout the election period.

The Commission also sought inclusive solutions in an effort to enfranchise all voters in the country, according to EU COM Chief Observer Veronique De Keyser.
