BLANTYRE (AGV)—Former Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister Ralph Kasambara on monday appeared before Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate Court and named President Joyce Banda as one of the witness in the case of the attempted murder of budget director Paul Mphwiyo.  Kasambara is being held on charges of the attempted murder of the budget director on September 13 this year. Former Malawi Justice Minister arrested over shooting of top government official

Ralph Kasambara arrestedBlantyre, Malawi, Nov.  (MaraviPost) _ Malawi’s former Justice Minister Ralph Kasambara has been arrested in connection with the September 13 shooting of Budget Director Paul Mphwiyo, police have confirmed.

“Mr. Kasambara was arrested at his house in (the capital) Lilongwe last night in connection with the attempt on the life of Mr. Mphwiyo,” police spokesman Kelvin Maigwa told maravipost Friday morning. “We have gathered evidence which suggests that Mr. Kasambara was involved in the shooting.”

Malawi President Joyce Banda fires cabinet amid worsening corruption scandals

President Joyce Banda Amidst ScandalsBlantyre, Malawi, Oct. 10 (AGV) _ Malawi president Joyce Banda has sacked her entire cabinet in the wake of reports of worsening corruption in her government.

“Her Excellency Dr. Joyce Banda, President of the Republic of Malawi, in exercise of the powers conferred upon her by Section 94 (1) and Section 95 (2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi, has today, 10th October, 2013, dissolved Cabinet. Following the dissolution of the Cabinet, all ministerial matters will revert to the presidency through Controlling Officers. Her Excellency the President will announce a new Cabinet in due course,” reads a brief statement signed by Presidential Press Secretary Steven Nhlane issued in the lakeshore resort district of Mangochi late Thursday evening.
