Zimbabwe to hold state funeral for Mugabe on Sept. 14

The Zimbabwean government has signaled plans to hold a state funeral for former president Robert Mugabe on Saturday September 14. Reuters reported that the government has sent out a memo to embassies on Sunday stating that the funeral will take place in the National Sports Stadium in Harare. The government also said a burial ceremony is planned for the day after the state funeral, but exactly where he would be buried is unclear. Robert Mugabe gets national hero status after death

Former President of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe has been declared a “national hero” by his ruling Zanu-PF party. This declaration is coming following the death of Mr. Mugabe whose last days were in conflict with a party he helped founded. Mr Mugabe led Zimbabwe to independence and ruled until he resigned from power after a military coup in 2017. Zimbabwe: Workers union rejects pay offer from government

Zimbabwe’s main public sector union has rejected a pay offer from the government. The rejection of the offer on Saturday could compound the worsening economic situation in that country. The government now risks forcing the workers into embarking on strikes if it fails to reach a new agreement with them. The Union had said that the proposal from the government to boost salaries by 76 percent was not enough to meet workers demands. Zimbabwe: Police fire tear gas and beat protesters in Harare

Zimbabwe police on Friday fired tear gas and beat many opposition supporters who gathered in central Harare for a protest march. The government had banned an anti-government protest although the country’s high court upheld it. Protesters largely members of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) defied the ban. In an attempt to prevent the protest from taking place, police officers clashed with protesters. Zimbabwe’s Mugabe hospitalized in Singapore

Former President of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe has been hospitalized in a Singapore Hospital, local media reported.
