Covid-19: Kenya schools reopen after months of closure

Schools in Kenya on Monday reopened for children to return to the classroom for learning and teaching activities.
Millions of primary and secondary school children in Kenya are expected to get back to the classroom.
In October final year students resumed learning ahead of Monday’s official reopening date.
Meanwhile the head of the Kenya National Union of Teachers Wilson Sossion has said that the safety of students and teachers is at risk as schools reopened.
He told the BBC that the level of preparation on coronavirus safety measures is “quite inadequate”.

But there are new guidelines from the country’s education ministry hoping to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Teachers are to teach in available space as well as facilitate learning under trees, to ensure social distancing.
All children will have to wear face masks and the government has promised to distribute some to needy students.
Kenya has recorded 96,802 cases of the virus including 1,685 deaths, according to the health ministry.
