Certain people are at increased risk of anaemiaThe red blood cells (RBC) carry oxygen around the body, using a particular protein called haemoglobin. An essential component of haemoglobin is iron. Anaemia is condition in which there is a deficiency in the number or quality of red blood cells. Lack of iron is common in anaemic people. Anaemia means that either the level of red blood cells or the level of haemoglobin is lower than normal.
