Malawi Minister Sidik Mia Resigns from President Joyce Banda’s People’s Party

Mia’s resignation comes barely a week after First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jones Chingola and former of Deputy of Monister of Transport Sam Ganda ditched the party to contest as independents in May 20 parliamentary polls.

However, the sitting parliamentarian for Chikhwawa Nkombezi where he was set to retain the seat on PP ticket, could not tell his next move, saying he will convene another press conference where he would divulge more information..

He told journalists that he has also resigned from the Cabinet adding that he has already tendered his resignation to the party’s secretariat.

Mia, who is largely considered as ‘man of the people’, mainly in the south, becomes second person to resign as a Minister after Atupele Muluzi, who was hired as Minister of Economic Planning.

PP is also on the verge of losing Henry Phoya, who’s is the Minister Lands, Minister of Mining John Bande, and the Minister of Defence Ken Kandodo.

According to our sources, the these cabinet ministers are heading to Malawi Congress Party.
