It is that time of the year when we put together a list of the best albums & EPs delivered during the outgoing year. Pretty much all A-list Nigerian musicians put out an album in the same year. We had albums from Burna Boy, Wizkid, Olamide, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Davido and we couldn’t be more excited.
Thanks to the pandemic, many of our stars stayed put in one location for a long time, long enough to give them ample opportunity to record their respective albums.
For 2020 over 30 albums and EPs were released from artists like Patoranking, The Cavemen, Terri, Oxlade, Wande Coal etc. Even as this list is put together we are still expecting new albums from Tekno and Peruzzi just before the year runs out. The albums rankings consideration cut across all music genres R&B, Hip Hop, Pop and the Alternatives.
The criteriafor our selection is based on the quality of music, the thought process in making it and public appeal.
Below is our list of the 10 best nigerian albums & EPs of 2020.
1Omah Lay – Get Lay’d
Our number one project in 2020 has to be the 6-track EP by Omah Lay titled “Get Lay’d“. The extended play was released in May during the height of the lockdown. It is interesting because prior to the release of his debut EP Omah Lay was relatively unknown in the entertainment industry, however, he gave us some quality music. His music was kind of refreshing especially for his choice of lyrics reflectiing his Port Harcourt heritage. As the months past by, “Get Lay’d” became a phenomenal success, amassing millions of streams across digital stores and streaming platforms. In a short while Omah Lay became a household name within months of being an unknown upcoming act.
