Music producer tasks greenhorns on impactful songs

Camilus Oruwense, a producer has advised beginners in the industry to create positive and inspirational lyrics that would impact on the society.

Oruwense gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Benin.

He observed that most contents from the locally produced songs were strictly beat and hi-hooks inclined, adding that the songs lacked inspirational ability to correct the ills in the society.

He expressed regrets  that most artistes do not take time out to read books and study about aesthetics that would inform their choice of words.

“The present day from our youths have good beats, but no meaningful lyrics that would edify the soul or nation. Only few of them make sense.

“In time past, we had artistes that sat down to deal songs from positive and inspirational lyrics to beats, but times have suddenly changed.

“The new generation artiste do not care about the content of their songs, and the ones who do, have little idea of how much their songs affects the lives of people.

“We need to go back to the drawing board, strategise and produce good that can impact knowledge,’’ he said.

The producer explained that, songs were meant to entertain, educate and correct the ills in the society.

“I believe that society responds better to music than laid down regulations; so it should be judiciously harnessed and used as a tool by government,” Oruwense said. (NAN)
