Libya: Air strike on Murzuq kills more than 40

Over 40 people have been killed following an air strike on the southern Libyan town of Murzuq.

Reuters reported that the Eastern Libyan forces loyal to Khalifa Haftar confirmed a strike late on Sunday.

The Eastern Libyan forces however denied targeting any civilians.

Last month five doctors were also killed in a similar air strike on a hospital in the southern outskirts of Libya’s capital Tripoli.

That was also carried out by a warplane belonging to Khalifa Hafta.

Hafta is a former officer in Muammar Gaddafi’s army who wants to topple the internationally recognized government in Tripoli.

The battle over Tripoli started in April this year has also led to the displacement of millions with thousands sustaining injuries.

Libya has been in turmoil since the overthrow of longtime leader, Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. The country is ruled by factions.

Eastern Libyan forces have been marching towards the centre of Tripoli for months now seeking to take control of the city.
