Africa wishes Nelson Mandela (Madiba) Well

Dlamini-Zuma says she has been following the evolution of Nelson Mandela’s health very closely “with prayerful attention”.

“I know that he is getting the best possible medical attention and treatment anyone of his status could receive,” continues Dlamini-Zuma, herself South Africa’s former Foreign Minister, adding: “It gives me great comfort to hear that he is also responding positively to treatment.”

She concludes that the continent “continues to pray and look forward to Madiba’s speedy recovery”.

Mandela, 94, checked into a Pretoria hospital last Saturday following the recurrence of a lung infection he has been suffering for some time. Mac Maharaj, the presidency spokesman, described Madiba’s condition as “serious but stable”.

His wife, Graca Machel, cancelled her scheduled trip to London to be by her husband’s side. His ex-wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela also paid him a visit Monday.

President Jacob Zuma, who was yet to pay him a visit, has called on South Africans to pray for the global icon.-maravipost
