African Development Bank Group president to speak at 7th Africa Ireland Economic Forum

Who:           Dr Akinwumi Adesina

What:          7th Africa Ireland Economic Forum

Where:        Dublin, Ireland

When:         30 June 2022

African Development Bank Group President Akinwumi Adesina will join Ireland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence, Simon Coveney, and others, in Dublin, Ireland, for the 7th Africa Ireland Economic Forum on the 30th of June 2022. The conference is a key element of Ireland’s Africa Strategy.

Dr Adesina will deliver a keynote address around the forum’s theme, “Prospering Post-Pandemic: towards a sustainable, greener future” from 15:30 to 16:10 (GMT+1).

This is the first Africa Ireland Economic Forum after a four-year hiatus. It will put increased trade at the core of discussions between business and political leaders from across Ireland and Africa. Trade between Ireland and Africa is currently at an all-time high. In 2021, Ireland’s trade in goods increased to a record level of €2.42 billion, while trade in services was just over €4 billion.

Outside of the forum, Adesina will take part in a webinar organised by the Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA) — Ireland’s leading international affairs think tank — from 11:15 to 12:30 (GMT+1) on the 1st of July. In addition, he will participate in a series of bilateral meetings.

The African Development Bank Group chief is also expected to have a teleconference with President Michael D. Higgins of Ireland.

This is the first visit by an African Development Bank Group president to Ireland. The country became the Bank Group’s 81st shareholder, following a declaration issued by Dr Adesina on the 24th of April 2020.
