Webinar Series on Debt Management in the Context of COVID-19 – 2nd Webinar: Exploring the Link Between Tax Policies and Debt Management

What: Webinar on the link between tax policies and debt management
Who: African Development Bank
When: 7 June 2021, 9:00 to 10:30 GMT
Where: Virtual

The objective of this webinar is to explore how robust tax policies can help African countries manage escalating debt levels. The session will feature senior government officials and international experts who are leaders on this issue.

As public debt levels escalate, aggressive borrowing from private capital markets is hard to imagine. This poses a serious policy challenge for African governments because they need to spend more but they have limited financing opportunities. Meanwhile, Africa in 2021 is much different from what it was in 2000. Today, Africa has much greater potential for taxation, relatively deeper domestic markets and better borrowing options from external markets.

New trends such as establishing domestic bond markets and other innovative revenue sources will be discussed in upcoming sessions of this debt management series.

Interpretation services will be available in English and French. Please register here.
