Rwanda ranks best in managing Covid-19 pandemic in Africa

Rwanda has been ranked first in Africa in managing the Covid-19 pandemic.

The country also ranked high globally in making information on the pandemic accessible to the public.

The Australian think tank Lowy Institute that released the rating, ranked a total of 98 countries globally.

The ranking was done according to the institute based on average performance in managing the pandemic within 36 weeks when it recorded 100 Coronavirus case.

The study measured a number of key indicators including confirmed cases, deaths, cases per million people and deaths per million people.

Rwanda has so far recorded a total of 14,529 Covid-19 cases with 9,234 recoveries.

It has recorded up to 183 deaths, which is 1.3 percent of the people infected.

Togo came second in the rankings in Africa followed by Tunisia, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia and Uganda.

Tanzania and Burundi, alongside China, were not ranked due to a lack of publicly available data on testing.

Globally however New Zealand, Vietnam and Taiwan were the top three countries that managed the pandemic better.

According to the report smaller populations, cohesive societies and capable institutions were significant in successfully dealing with the pandemic.
