Nigeria: Abducted mother of ex-footballer Siasia freed

Police in Nigeria on Sunday confirmed the release of the abducted mother of former Nigerian footballer and coach Samson Siasia.

Beauty Ogere Siasia was abducted by gunmen when they broke into her family apartment in July.

She was kidnapped in her village in Bayelsa state, southern Nigeria, according to family members.

Samson and other family members had pleaded for months for the release of beauty.

A member of the Siasia family, Eworikumo Siasia told local media the Beauty Siasia has now been freed and is home with family members.

Often family members of individuals considered stars and rich are kidnapped with kidnappers demanding a ransom.

Footballers like Mikel Obi and Samuel Kalu have all had their parents being abducted in the past.

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has also been a victim of this form of crime, with some of his relations being kidnapped.

Both locals and foreigners have all fallen victim to kidnapping in Nigeria, with most of the perpetrators often young unemployed Nigerians.
