Mzansi Music: Amapiano Song of the Day

South Africans are proud to call Amapiano the country’s dominant music genre. The deep basslines, subtle piano chords, and social commentary in the vocals are just irresistible.

AMAPIANO SONG OF THE DAY

To kick off this new exciting feature, we look at the song many fans believe was the breakthrough hit that took over radio airwaves in 2019.

The song titled “Shesha” came out to the streets in 2019 before bulldozing the charts and Mzansi’s mainstream music during the devasting 2020 Covid lockdown.

It was created by the genre’s living legends De Mthuda (producer) and Njelic (vocalist).

ABOUT SHESHA

When you first hear “Shesha,” it sounds like a basic party song but on a closer listen, you realise it is an endearing love song.

Njelic, en route to his girlfriend’s house, makes a call to her to say she should urgently beg her to take a bath or shower (shesha geza) so she could come along with his friends to a party.
