Mr Vegas looks to France – Signs with top independent music label

Over 3,000 reggae-dancehall lovers filled The Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York, on New Year’s Eve to see the likes of Mr Vegas, Ding Dong, Wayne Wonder and Serani perform.

The Jamaican entertainers basked in the spotlight and, according to Mr Vegas, it was the icing on the cake following an eventful 2022.

“It was a really good turnout. It was filled to capacity and people seemed to enjoy themselves, because it was a great package in terms of the acts they got to see perform,” he told THE STAR.

“I, too, can say I had a nice reel, and there is lot I can be proud of myself for,” Mr Vegas continued.

One of those things was graduating from the Florida International University (FIU) with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and anthropology, with a minor in hospitality management. Mr Vegas, whose given name is Clifford Smith, has continued to challenge himself, first with acquiring his general educational diploma in 2019, and then an associate degree in mass communication from Broward College two years later.

Mr Vegas shared, “I think the main highlight of my year was graduating from FIU, because it was on my list of things to do coming out of the pandemic.”

The I Am Blessed artiste-songwriter also signed a contract with France’s foremost independent music label, Play Two, which is a subsidiary of the TF1 group. He is working on a large catalogue of music for release this year and is looking to further market his brand in France and French territories.

He and Nigerian star Yemi Alade should be meeting up in Guadeloupe to shoot the video for their single, Bright Future.

“I’ve had some amazing collaborations with Ludmilla from Brazil and Farruko [Puerto Rican singer and rapper], and we have a good dancehall dance track, inspired by popular dancer Pataskeng, that’s doing well. Now, with Yemi, we’ll be meeting halfway with this production by going to Guadeloupe, a French territory where there is large population of Africans. People can also look forward to seeing me on tour and lots of diverse productions coming out of my signing with Play Two,” Mr Vegas said.
