Malawi govt. warns Chinese managers against abusing local workers
Secretary for Labour, James Kalirangwe, who visited the site on Wednesday, said, “We have made it clear that nay beatings of staff will not be tolerated. We have said the employer should not be judge; if a worker has been caught stealing he should be handed over to police.
“The laws of this country do not empower an employer to beat up a worker and if anyone will be found in such acts, he will be deported.”
During the visit, it was transpired the company ordered locals workers not use the toilets within the premises and denies them access to toilets outside the premises as this eats into their productive time, among others..
