German ambassador to Chad leaves after expulsion
The German ambassador to Chad has left the country after the military government expelled him.
Chad wanted Jan-Christian Gordon Kricke out of the country for what it says was due to his “impolite attitude” and “lack of respect for diplomatic customs.”
The country’s Communication Ministry said in a statement last week that Kricke, who has been serving as Germany’s ambassador to Chad since 2021, had 48 hours to leave the country.
Kricke had up to last Friday to leave, which he did on Saturday, according to Chadian officials.
Chadian Foreign Minister Mahamat Saleh Annadif was quoted by the AFP on Sunday as saying that “The German ambassador to Chad, Jan Christian Gordon Kricke, took the Air France flight on Saturday evening.”

Aziz Mahamat Saleh, the government spokesman also confirmed that in AFP reporting.
German authorities say Chad did not officially specify the exact reasons for the expulsion of the ambassador.

But the ambassador was being blamed for what a Chadian government official said was for “interfering too much” in the “governance of the country”, as well as “remarks tending to divide the Chadians”.
Chad is being ruled by Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, 37, who seized power following the death of his father Idriss Déby Itno. He was killed in a battle against rebels.
