Cartoon Network and HBO Max assemble all-Nigerian cast for upcoming “Iyanu” animated series

Cartoon Network and HBO Max announced a landmark achievement for Nigerian animation with the unveiling of an entirely Nigerian voice cast for their upcoming animation series, Iyanu.

Iyanu, which translates to “wonder” in Yoruba, is an epic superhero saga steeped in the rich culture, music, and mythology of Nigeria. Adapted from the popular graphic novel series Iyanu: Child of Wonder by award-winning Nigerian creator Roye Okupe (Dark Horse Comics/YouNeek Studios), the series follows the journey of Iyanu, a teenage orphan with a hidden past.

Serah Johnson lends her voice to Iyanu, a bookish girl yearning for a normal life who unexpectedly discovers incredible powers. Triggered by a dangerous situation, Iyanu embarks on a remarkable adventure alongside her two friends: the adventurous Biyi (voiced by Okey Jude), and the studious Toye (voiced by Samuel Kugbiyi). Together, they seek to unravel the ancient curse threatening their homeland and uncover the secrets of Iyanu’s past.
