African Development Bank’s Independent Review Mechanism (IRM) hosts webinar for civil society organizations

The Compliance Review and Mediation Unit (BCRM), the Secretariat of the Bank’s Independent Review Mechanism (IRM), is organizing an information webinar on “Handling Complaints from People Affected by Projects Financed by the AfDB” on Wednesday, 10 June 2020 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, Abidjan time.

The virtual webinar has been organized in collaboration with some civil society organizations such as Lumiere Synergie Development (LSD) in Senegal; Centre de Développement de la Région de Tensift (CDRT) in Morocco and the Accountability Counsel in USA.

The session is intended to equip participants with tools to provide support to people adversely affected by Bank Group-financed projects and will explain the procedure for complaints. Participants will also be updated on the ongoing third review of the performance of the IRM.

The BCRM organizes annual outreach activities to raise awareness about the Review mechanism in different countries of Africa. The BCRM also collaborates with relevant stakeholders to ensure the concerns of affected people are addressed adequately.

Key topics to be discussed include accountability, compliance review and problem solving, which are the approaches the IRM uses to process complaints.

This session is part of the adjustment the IRM, like other Bank Departments, has made to continue with the implementation of its work programme due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

NB: Kindly confirm your participation by Monday 8 June 2020 with Ms. SAH Rose Ahouefa Ablanvi – Email: R.SAH@AFDB.ORG, by providing your name, the name of your organization and Country.  Only registered participants will receive the parameters of the webinar.
