according to the article Mr Lubinda said statistics had shown that money which Africans living overseas were sending back to their countries of origin was more than the aid money sent to the continent by donors.
He was speaking on Tuesday night during dinner hosted for his delegation and Zambians living in United States (US), Washington DC at the residence of Zambia’s Ambassador, Sheila Siwela.
He has since appealed to all Zambians living in the US to register with the Zambian mission here so that they were accounted for.
The minister explained that Government needed to know the number of Zambians living in the US so that it could handle their affairs whenever need arose.
He said the Diaspora policy would help Zambians restart their lives when they return to Zambia.
He also urged skilled Zambians to vie for high profile jobs which were available on the international market.
The minister said the Government was compiling a data base of all jobs available in international institutions so that Zambians could be encouraged to apply for such positions.
He said there were many countries that were lobbying Zambia to support their candidates vying for international jobs and yet there were no Zambians jostling for positions.
Meanwhile, former Bank of Zambia Deputy Governor, Denny Kalyalya, who is now working in Washington, said Zambia should take advantage of international institutions for her development process.
Dr Kalyalya said at the same function that a number of Zambian citizens have acquired enough expertise and skills to lobby international institutions for assistance.
He also said the water and sanitation project which will be funded under the US programme, Millennium Challenge Account, was an important project which the Government should implement as soon as funds were approved.
A team of Zambians led by Secretary to the Treasury Fredson Yamba is in Washington having technical negotiations of the US$354 million earmarked for a Lusaka Water and Sanitation project.
Mr Lubinda and officials from the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) and the Department of Tourism are meeting with the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the Safari Club International (SCI) Foundation on Zambia’s wildlife development.
Last week, Mr Lubinda, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and Labour, Amos Malupenga and other senior Government officials attended a 40th Safari Club International annual convention in Las Vegas in the state of Nevada in the US. -ZANIS
