Our Jaguda Artiste of the Month for October is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, professionally known as Wizkid. The Nigerian pop superstar also known by the alias Starboy has ruled the Nigerian music scene for 10 years and he isn’t about to lose his throne just yet.

It is crazy when you subtly reflect that Wizkid has over ten years of experience on stage as a professional musician seeing as he only turned 30 in July. It has been 10 years of bangers, cultural influence and transitioning into an international music star for Wizkid.

He metamorphosed from singing ‘Holla at Your Boy’ to ‘Ojuelegba‘ and then to being on the same track with Beyoncé. The forward and upward ride of the Starboy has been epic with every step of the way.

There are lots of talking points from Wizkid’s career so far, but we would be relishing the singer’s newly released album ‘Made in Lagos’. It took three years of blood, tears and sweat from the ‘Joro’ crooner to complete work on MIL and later release the album project.

Behind the scenes, there have been lots of major changes, last minute additions, agreements and disagreements before we had what is now the ‘Made in Lagos’ album.

Although it might not be intentional, the delay in the MIL release piqued the interests of millions of music lovers at home and beyond the shores. You love to see the manner in which fans have plugged in on the music now that it’s available.

At the centre of it all is Wizkid who has kept everything at the core together. The Lagos-bred singer totally kept his legion of fans entertained while he cooked MIL.

Even when the project was very much in sight, the end Sars movement in October brought about another last minute postponement. It was a show of patriotism from Wizkid as he leaned his voice to the End SARS protests that rocked the month of October. He didn’t only tweet, he joined protesters on the streets of London to further amplify the message.

We now finally have the ‘Made in Lagos’ album published on many DSPs as possible. Fans are delightfully streaming the project and they seem to love it from the reviews so far.

One would have excepted a more African or particularly Nigerian album from Wizkid especially going the title but the singer thought otherwise. He showed off a finer R&B centric Wizkid that is all mushy and sensual .

The album boasts of tasty R&B tunes with international appeal. The collaborations were aptly selected to fit the sensual theme of the album. Again, it is totally correct if you say the Starboy is futuristic with the album.

With entertainment among the top two leading sectors in the Nigerian economy, Wizkid is telling the world he is a global pop star who was made in Lagos. At this point he is bagging lots international attention, so he is merely pointing to his roots via his fourth studio album.
