Sarfilu Umar Zarewa, the Hausa singer better known as Sufin Zamani, has apologised for his inciting song about Hausa actresses.
Earlier, the musician was detained by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) for putting out a song whose title suggested that Hausa actresses don’t stay in their marriages.
Zarewa was reported by authorities of the Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN) after some Hausa actresses complained that the song was derogatory to them.
The singer was ordered to apologise in writing and video while making another song retracting his statements.
According to Premium Times, Al-Amin Ciroma, the national PRO of MOPPAN, said Zarewa has complied with the directive.
“The DSS has asked the singer to write an apology letter to the actresses through MOPPAN and sing a new song debunking what he earlier said in his music,” he said.
“He has sent a letter of apology to MOPPAN and has sung a new song debunking his earlier claim.”
Suleiman Hassan, a close associate of Zarewa, was quoted as saying the singer had apologised to the women.
“He sang the earlier song in good faith, but it turns out to be something else. He accepted his mistake, and he apologised. He has made a short video and audio recording apologising to all the women,” Hassan added.
