On 4 December 2020, the Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and WHO convened their annual strategic dialogue. The overall objective of the meeting, held virtually this year, was to engage in a political dialogue and exchange views on strategies, policies and activities of WHO, the current WHO transformation process and COVID-response, review the key areas financed by Luxembourg and explore new areas of collaboration.
“The Government of Luxembourg is a strong supporter of WHO priority programmes,” said Ms Jane Ellison, WHO Executive Director for External Relations and Governance. “We are very grateful to Luxembourg for their trust, for their commitment to global health, and for the multi-annual, flexible funding Luxembourg provides.”
Luxembourg is one of WHO’s top 10 core voluntary donors. Core voluntary contributions are vital for WHO to ensure that critical gaps in funding are filled and allow WHO to act quickly by allocating funds when and where they are needed. Comparing Luxembourg’s relative voluntary contributions with other top flexible donors, Luxembourg ranks 1st, showcasing Luxembourg’s strong commitment to collaborating with WHO and help achieve the health-related Sustainable Development targets.
The strategic dialogue follows the signature of a new Memorandum of Understanding for the period 2020-2023 in support of the Organization’s Thirteenth General Programme of work 2019-2023, signed in June.
