Nigerian Artist Sues Kuami Eugene GH120,000 For Song Theft

A Nigerian artist Ottomi Patrick Akhere also known as Oduma Essan has sued Ghanaian highlife Kuami Eugene for allegedly stealing his song.

Kuami Eugene is known for sampling old songs of other people for his own songs. He has a few songs and acapella sampled from the songs from other artists. He has given the excuse that the sampling of other’s songs is the inspiration he gets from these songs but it appears that this time around, he has been caught in the net.

The Nigerian singer has dragged Kuami Eugene to the Accra High Court for stealing his song. According to Ottomi Patrick, Kuami Eugene stole the concept and elements of his single “Show Body”. Patrick said that he released his track “Show Body” in July 2020 and followed up with a video in September 2020.

Patrick Ottomi said that he spent a lot of in the production of his song and the promotion of the song in both Ghana and in Nigeria. Kuami Eugene released his music video titled “Show Body” exactly a month after Patrick released his song also titled “Show Body”.

According to him, Kuami Eugene’s song is a replica or duplication of his own work, raising the similarities in the songs. He claims Kuame Eugene “plagiarised” the title and his lyrics and visual imagery. He is however requesting GHc 120,000 for damages for the costs of his video production, sound engineering, mixing, and promotion of the songs.
