Gospel music as strong as ever –Tinuade Ilesanmi

Gospel singer, Tinuade Ilesanmi, does not agree with the school of thought that says gospel songs are no longer as introspective and deep as they used to be. In an encounter with Sunday Scoop, she said, “I personally would not go with that school of thought. We cannot generalise things like that. We still have songs with deep revelations that bring people back to the feet of the Master in awe of His glory, and make them come to repentance. The Gospel is the same message of Christ given to us in different diversities. Each pattern and genre of songs may appeal to each person differently but the breath of God in them gives life.”

Ilesanmi, who is currently working on the video of her fourth single, Who You Are, also stated that God was her driving force. She added, “My inspiration comes from God; He is my driving force. The love for God and drive to serve Him propel me all the time. The passion for singing and music has also helped me. I love to sing about God―His faithfulness and His capacity. I also love to sing uplifting and encouraging songs of hope.”

Speaking on the challenges she is currently facing in her career, the talented singer said, “It takes great grace to answer God’s call because it demands a lot from one. As a female gospel artiste, it is demanding as a wife and mother but the grace of God always backs the assignment, in addition to the support of my family. Also, the cost of making music, distribution and promotion is challenging. We don’t have much people and organisations willing to commit resources to support the gospel industry in Nigeria. However, with God, I know all mountains can be subdued.”

Reeling out the highlights of her career, Ilesanmi said, “By God’s grace, I signed on a label, Diadem Records, in June 2018 and since then, it has been from glory to glory. Some of my notable projects are You are Beautiful, Amazing God, Igwe, Who You Are (featuring Preye Odede) and MaIajo. Also on a quarterly basis, I anchor a programme called Atmosphere of Praise with Tinuade, and also co-host Voice of Worship and Praisewine.
