Ralpha Kasambara in CustodyBLANTYRE (AGV)—Former Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister Ralph Kasambara on monday appeared before Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate Court and named President Joyce Banda as one of the witness in the case of the attempted murder of budget director Paul Mphwiyo.

Kasambara is being held on charges of the attempted murder of the budget director on September 13 this year.

The other names of the witnesses presented by the former minister to Chief Resident Magistrate Ruth Chinangwa are Cecilia Kumpukwe of State House, Information and Civic Education Minister Brown James Mpinganjira, a Prophet Elias and ruling People’s Party (PP) spokesperson, Hophmally Makande.

Chief Resident Magistrate Chinangwa has since committed the matter to the High Court since her court does not have jurisdiction to try cases pertaining to murder.

Kasambara is widely suspected to have masterminded the shooting of Mphwiyo, but never took part in the actual shooting.

He was arrested last Friday.

Likewise, Pika Manondo, also arrested in connection with the shooting of Mphwiyo, appeared also before the Lilongwe Chief Magistrate where he was formally charged with attempted murder charge.

He appeared before the court without his lawyer, John Gift Mwankhwawa

Magistrate Chinangwa has also committed Manondo’s case to the High Court where he will have to apply for bail.
