British supermodel Naomi Campbell has signed a deal with Kenyan government to help promote the country as a top tourism destination.
The coronavirus pandemic hit the tourism sector hard in Kenya and the country is finding ways to revive it.
On Tuesday, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala said Ms Campbell agreed to become Magical Kenya’s international ambassador.
“We welcome the exciting news that Naomi Campbell will advocate for tourism and travel internationally for the magical Kenya brand,” CS Balala said in a statement.

Campbell, 50, is also an actress and businesswoman who has been in Kenya for vacations since December.
Kenyan officials are hoping she uses her large following on social media which is over 13 million on Instagram, Youtube, Facebook and Twitter to draw more tourists to the country.
But not all Kenyans are excited about this news as they expressed concerns on social media.
So not ONE Kenyan could fit this position? Do y’all even have Kenyan ‘tourism’ ambassadors?

Why didn’t Ajuma Nasenyana not get the position and she is Kenyan, why didn’t Lupita not get the offer and she is Kenyan, why didn’t Debra Sanaipei not get the position and she is Kenyan.. what was the criteria for selection? Non Kenyan? pic.twitter.com/OtYdYWMHxG

This Demonstrates that You do not have confidence in Kenyans to promote their country
Why do you have to import a British to Promote Tourism for Kenya?
This colonial mentality has crippled Kenya’s tourism Industry because we always want to be seen in the eyes of the oppressor— Daniel Mwambonu (@DMwambonu) January 12, 2021
