Stranded Nigerian traders in Ghana cry out for repatriation

Nigeria’s Buhari extends border closure to 2020

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has extended the current closure of Nigeria’s border with neighbouring countries to January 31, 2020. Since August 20, 2019, Nigeria has closed its borders with some of its neighbouring West African countries. Borders in four geopolitical zones across the country, including South-South, South-West, North-Central and North-West have been closed. The government took the decision in an attempt to stop what it calls smuggling activities at it’s borders. Ghana: Local traders lock up shops of foreigners

Local traders in Ghana’s second largest city of Kumasi on Wednesday locked up shops belonging to foreigners in some commercial hubs. The closure took place in areas like Alarbar, Adhye and Kejetia with Nigerian traders bearing the most brunt.
