Tunisian presidential candidate Karoui to remain in jail

One of the two candidates to reach the presidential run-off contest in Tunisia, Nabil Karoui has failed to secure his release from prison. Nabil Karoui, 56 was unable to win an appeal case against his detention. He was detained last month on charges of money laundering and tax fraud, which he denies. Tunisia: Two outsiders to contest presidential runoff poll

Tunisia’s electoral commission has confirmed that a law professor Kais Saied and detained media mogul Nabil Karoui will contest the presidential run-off vote. They are the two candidates out of the 26 that contested this month’s first round of votes who emerged top. Tunisia: 26 candidates approved for presidential race

Tunisia’s electoral commission on Wednesday sad it has approved 26 candidates to run for president next month. Those approved include two women, the electoral commission said. 71 other applicants were rejected after the commission received 98 nomination forms. Prime Minister Youssef Chahed got his candidacy approved as he faces a major task to win the presidential race.
