Mr Eazi’s emPawa project gives hope to African artistes

This year Nigerian-born artist and music executive Mr Eazi launched his emPawa Africa incubator program to support African artistes. The initiative is aimed at investing in the next generation of African talents, largely emerging music stars who lack the needed support. On August 15 entries were opened for submissions from rising African artistes. 30 artists will receive funds to film their music video, get to be mentored and given guidance from musicians like Diamond Platinumz, Sarkodie, Kwesta, Guilty Beatz, Juls, E. Ivorian Musician DJ Arafat dies in road crash

Ivorian musician DJ Arafat has died following a road accident in Ivory Coast’s main city, Abidjan. The 33-year-old has a huge following in the Francophone region. He had referred to himself as the king of the dance music genre coupé-décalé. His biggest hit song had over five million views on YouTube. DJ Arafat’s real name is Houon Ange Didier. Nigerian musician Tekno arrested for ‘strip dance’ video

A Nigerian musician, Tekno, 26, has been arrested after video of him dancing with “half-naked” women in a truck in Lagos went viral. In a video that was widely circulated on social media, the musician could be seen through a display truck dancing with the women in traffic. Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy on Friday released his latest album called the African Giant. African Giant has songs like Dangote, On the Low, Gbona and Anybody, all previously released singles. South Africa’s Hugh Masekela Jives the Baobab Babes

The Danish group has been charming local township dwellers over the past few weeks by breaking into traditional folk songs in Sotho, Zulu, Xhosa and Tswana on street corners, wowing pedestrians with soulful renderings of songs they recognise.
