Sacked Zimbabwe doctors reject deal to return to work

The Union that represents Zimbabwe state doctors has rejected a deal that would have seen hundreds of doctors sacked recently return to work. The doctors on Friday rejected an offer from the government to get them back to work. In September, over one thousand of state doctors went on strike. When they refused to call off their strike, the government decided to sack them in November. Nurses in Zimbabwe embark on strike

Nurses at all council clinics in Zimbabwe’s capital Harare have abandoned work compounding the health crisis in the country. The nurses declared strike on Monday citing incapacitation, according to local media reporting. Zimbabwe: Abducted doctor found but disoriented

A leader of a doctors’ union in Zimbabwe, Peter Magombeyi who was abducted a few days ago has now been found. Local media reported that Peter Magombeyi was left near the capital by his abductors but in a disorientated state. He is however in good health, according to a doctor colleague who spoke to the BBC. Doctors in Zimbabwe are on strike demanding the release of an abducted union leader. Peter Magombeyi who heads a doctor’s union disappeared on Saturday. His colleague doctors and other union officials fear that he could have been abducted by the security forces.
