170 suspected terrorists arrested at Ghana-Togo border

Over 170 suspected criminals and terrorists have been arrested in a swoop near the Ghana -Togo border. The joint operation named Koudanlgou III was simultaneously carried along the borders of Ghana and Togo and selected areas within their national territories. Officials said it was aimed at clamping down on the activities of criminals and suspected terrorists groups. “The exercise is aimed at preventing terrorist activities, illegal resource extraction, drug trafficking, dealing in illicit arms, smuggling, among other transnational crimes,” Ghana’s national security minister Albert Kan Dapaah said in a statement. Nigeria’s Buhari extends border closure to 2020

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has extended the current closure of Nigeria’s border with neighbouring countries to January 31, 2020. Since August 20, 2019, Nigeria has closed its borders with some of its neighbouring West African countries. Borders in four geopolitical zones across the country, including South-South, South-West, North-Central and North-West have been closed. Ghanaian traders push for ban on imports from Nigeria

Ghana’s government is under pressure to ban all imports from Nigeria as a sign of disapproval to the ongoing closure of Nigeria’s borders with neighbouring West African countries. Nigeria-Benin border closed due to smuggling

The Nigerian-Benin border has been closed partially as both countries work at stopping the ongoing smuggling activities at the border.
