Nigeria’s Iheanacho bursts onto Premier League stage

On the back of an underwhelming 2014/15 league campaign, Manuel Pellegrini find themselves in the driving seat after a faultless start to the year, and Iheanacho couldn’t have picked a better moment to open his City account. With odds of short as 1/3 with sportsbooks such as Betfair, some feel this Premier League title race is all but over. That might be somewhat premature, but the ability to maintaining a 100% record whilst the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United have all stumbled has put City very much in control of this season.

Despite their standing as one of club football’s largest and richest sides, City have so far failed to capture African football’s imagination in the same way Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea. While the presence of the likes of Yaya Toure and Wilfried Bony have helped increase City’s following on the continent, the Premier League giants’ following will only be helped by the emergence of an exciting young African talent. Still extremely raw in terms of senior football, Iheanacho certainly has all the tools to be a success at the Etihad, and Nigerian football could have a new hero to get behind.
