BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Renowned and maverick gender activist Seodi White has been fired from her position as Chief Director for Public Reforms at the Office of President and Cabinet (OPC).
According to Government spokesperson Gospel Kazako White, who rose the said position during the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) regime, did not pass through the normal procedure of recruitment in the civil service.
Kazako added that it is not only White who has been sent packing but also Director of Information in the Ministry of Information Nzati Nkolokosa and his deputy Deogratias Mmana.
In an apparent responding to those who might think it is witch hunting, Kazako said the dismissals are not personal but the current administration wants to re-align public service for the development of the country.
The Minister says more dismissals will come, to affect people who used shortcuts getting their employment in government departments.
Seodi White, who is also a trained lawyer, was a fierce critic of the Joyce Banda administration and has been a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) loyalist since the time of Bingu wa Mutharika.
Seodi also mobilized women across the country this year to protest against Human Rights Defenders Coalition who were leading Anti-Jane Ansah demonstrations in collaboration with the Malawi Congress Party and UTM supporters.
HRDC wanted Ansah to resign for mismanaging the 2019 Presidential Election which was eventually nullified by the Constitutional Court.
The ConCourt judgment was also upheld by the Supreme Court of Appeal.
