Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari is calling for calm as a probe begins into police abuses in the commercial hub of Lagos.

The probe is being handled by the judicial panel and is a key demand of the End SARS protesters who want prosecution of police officers indicted of abuse.

They are also demanding prosecution of victims of police brutalities or their relatives.

Lagos state which is the first of Nigeria’s 36 states to set up a panel has asked people to submit complaints.

In a tweet, President Buhari said the inquiry had his full support.

In a statement from his office President Buhari said he wants all the facts established about the shootings in Lekki toll gate.

“The President advises that peace, brotherhood, and inter communal harmony are central to our ethos and urges Nigerians ‘not to turn against one another in hate’,” the statement said.

The investigations come after two weeks of protests across Nigeria which led to the death of at least 69 people.

Meanwhile the #EndSARS campaigners have begun a social media process to elect leaders and advisers.
