A decision to bring four suspects to trial at the International Criminal Court, ICC, for inciting violence in Kenya in 2007-08 has been widely welcomed by rights activists in the country.
At a January 23 hearing in The Hague, ICC judges ruled that four senior Kenyan figures accused of inciting violence following the disputed presidential election of December 2007. Charges against two other suspects were dismissed for lack of evidence.



On Monday, 23 January 2012, Pre-Trial Chamber II of the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued its decisions on the confirmation of the charges in the case of The Prosecutor v. William Samoei Ruto, Henry Kiprono Kosgey and Joshua Arap Sang and in the case of The Prosecutor v. Francis Kirimi Muthaura,Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta and Mohammed Hussein Ali. The confirmation of charges hearings in these two cases were held from 1 to 8 September 2011 and from 21 September to 5 October 2011, respectively.
Suspected Kenyan fighter jets have bombed the southern Somali town of Jilib, killing at least 10 people. At least 45 people were also wounded in the attack. Reports say many of those killed were civilians, including several children. Local officials say Sunday's strike targeted an area where al-Shabab militants were distributing food to internally displaced people.
NAIROBI, 26 October 2011 - Reports of gender-based violence are on the rise in Kenya's cities, and experts say the police must improve their handling of cases of sexual assault to build public trust in the security and justice systems. According to police sources, some 3,200 cases of gender-based violence were reported to the police countrywide in 2010, up from 2,800 in 2009.
