Buhari in South Africa for state visit after xenophobic violence
Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has started a three day state visit in South Africa after arriving on Wednesday night.
He is visiting the country weeks after tensions escalated between Nigeria and South Africa over xenophobic violence targeted at Nigerians and other Africans in South Africa.
At the peak of the violence where Nigerians and their businesses were being attacked, the Nigerian government repatriated hundreds of its citizens.
The South African government came under a lot of criticisms globally for the xenophobic violence.
It offered an official apology to Nigeria and the rest of Africa.

President Buhari’s visit will also offer him and his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa that chance to discuss the issue further.
The Buhari presidency said his visit will also address the “welfare of Nigerians” while attending a business forum.
He will also preside over the South Africa-Nigeria Bi-National Commission; an initiative created in 1999 to enhance relations between the two countries.
