Boy commits suicide after impregnating 15-year-old girl

A 16 year-old student in Uganda has committed suicide after allegedly impregnating a 15-year-old girl.
Police in Rakai District say they are now investigating circumstances under which the boy died.
Kennedy Ssempijja, 16 and the 15-year-old girl got involved in a relationship this year, according to local media.
A brother to the deceased, said that his brother took a bottle of Paraquat, a pesticide which he had earlier bought to use in his garden.
“The girl’s parents came to our home and confronted our parents accusing my brother of impregnating their daughter and they asked Kennedy to either marry her or else they take the matter to authorities,” he recounted.

The family of the girl reported demanded some huge sum of money to take care of her.
The deceased did not agree to pay the money as he denied being the one responsible for the pregnancy and unable to marry the girl.
Father of the deceased said his son wanted to become an engineer.
“Getting money to pay his school fees would be hectic but I knew he would make it and become an engineer because that was his dream,” he said.
